our summer guests, my little story book

our summer guests

I wrote a book, it has nothing to do with naturopathy but because I respect all forms of life including animals, I just had to write about our little guests for one summer.

A family of foxes decided two years ago to make a home for themselves on our property. We discovered sadly that the mama fox was killed by the road, the seven babies left behind starving so we decided to feed them instead of transporting them to a fox rescue center. The owner of the rescue center gave us advice about their diet and they all grew up happy and healthy. I took some amateur shots hiding behind the tree for our enjoyment but while putting the pictures in the file, a cute and heartwarming story emerged. I decided to publish it and share it with others.

You can order the book on various websites, including www.barnesandnoble.com, www.amazon.com or google it by the title, OUR SUMMER GUESTS by Erika Szabo

You can read about readers comments on the barnes and noble website.

Enjoy the story

From the book:

"Hi kids," Laci the chipmunk greeted the little foxes. "Can I have some of your food? Lucky the house dog must have been very hungry. She didn't leave any for me. Well, it was my fault, I was late for dinner." "Go ahead," replied Charlie, "We have plenty." Laci ate some of the tasty food and then a strange thing happened. He started stuffing the food into his mouth but didn't swallow. His face and neck started to get bigger and bigger, and swelled towards his shoulders and down on both sides of his body. Soon, his upper body looked really fat. he nodded towards the kids and headed back to his home, pushing himself forward on his stomach with his hind legs because he was unable to walk. The little foxes found it very funny, laughing and rolling on the ground. for days after, they played the "stuff your mouth" game, imitating Laci of course. They were able to puff out only their faces with food. They didn't have a storing pouch like the chipmunk did, but it was fun

Posted July 4, 2008, 4:52 PM EST: I got the book for my kids but I've enjoyed it as much as they did. They still play the 'stuff your face' game. My son is not screaming anymore if he has to take medication, saying that 'Steve ate the medicine grass too and felt better.' That was a huge improvement, now he's not afraid to take a pill. It's amazing how a cute little story is able to influence a kid so much
