Household chemicals-tips to use less
There are chemicals everywhere in our surrounding. In the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, pantry, wherever we go there are chemicals in the form of cleaning, dishwashing, laundry detergent, air freshener. We don’t ever realize how much chemical we use that responsible for allergies, asthma and skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. They can be a trigger for many other diseases when we breathe or swallow these chemicals or they get into our bodies through our skin. Not to talk about the environment that is loaded with plastic cans and bags, metal spray containers and gases that we unnecessarily release into the air. There are a lot of natural, environment friendly methods that we can use; below you can read about some of them.
How can you keep flowers fresher and longer in the vase?
Add 2 tsp lemon juice, ½ tsp Clorox and 1 tsp sugar to a quart of water before you put the flowers in. the lemon and sugar will nourish the flowers, the Clorox will disinfect and block the bacterium, fungus growth in the water.
Moldy patches in the house:
Brew strong thyme tea, spray and wash the moldy patches with it, it will suppress the growth of mold.
Air freshener:
Soak a cotton ball with your favorite essential oil, put it in the vacuum cleaner’s bag before vacuuming.
Air freshener that will catch the odor causing molecules in the air:
Simmer water with lemon or orange slices for an hour on the stove.
Romantic air freshener:
Place a drop of rose or jasmine oil on the bulb before you turn the lamp on. The heat will release the smell.
Tranquility in the home:
Place a drop of lavender oil on the bulb before you turn the lamp on.
Closet freshener, moth repellent:
Soak a cotton ball with lavender oil, place it on a small plate or container and put it in the closet. The clothes will smell better and the moths will move away very quickly as well.
How to clean wall paper:
White bread is a great eraser on any paper.
Wooden furniture cleaner:
Add couple of drops of lemon oil to mineral oil, wipe the furniture and polish with a cloth.
Dust repellent on wooden furniture:
Add couple of drops of lemon oil to olive oil, wipe, polish, it will repel the dust later and will prevent the wood from drying too much.
Remove candle wax:
Remove the cooled top layer, cover the spot with blotting paper and iron on medium heat. The iron will melt and the paper will soak up the remaining wax.
Fire place cleaning:
Throw a handful of salt into the fire; it will keep the chimney clean. (don’t stand too close, it will throw sparks, use the mash to block sparks flowing out of the fire place.)
